HYDERABAD: At least 18 people are feared killed and over 60 injured, some of them critically, in three serial explosions near a busy bus stop and two cinema theatres at Dilsukh Nagar in Hyderabad on Thursday evening.
Union Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde confirmed that 11 people have been killed in the Hyderabad blasts. He also admitted the government had received intelligence warning of blasts taking place in the country.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said the blasts in Dilsukh Nagar area claimed 11 lives and injured 80 others. He said five or six were "severely" injured. He also requested the public to maintain peace.
Local reports said the five blasts all happened at Dilsukh Nagar area, which is a crowded locality in Hyderabad. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) though pegged the number to have rocked Andhra Pradesh's capital at three, while Hyderabad police said at least two blasts have taken place.
Dilsukh Nagar area had also witnessed an explosion in 2002. Two people were killed in that explosion near Saibaba Temple on November 21, 2002. Police had killed two local Muslim youths allegedly involved in the 2002 blast in two separate shoot-outs the same year. Police had blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) for the blast.
