Real Raksha Bandhan
According to Law of Karma, all sufferings are due to wrong or sinful actions on
the part of man. The law classifies all sinful or negative actions under six broad categories.
The names or titles of these are: Sex-lust, anger, greed, attachment pride and laziness
or carelessness. If one does an action, tainted by anyone of these or any combination
of these, that action, sooner or later, invites punishment of the doer, and all sufferings
are a kind of punishment or retribution for one's evil-doings. Though presently it
may seem that the sufferer was innocent (and he or she may now be truly) yet the Law of
Karma, which is a moral version of the Law of Cause and Effect, says that the pain to the
sufferer must have been caused by some negative action by him in the past - the past
moment, the past life or even the past millennium.
Moreover, this very law says that anyone who causes pain to another (sufferer) is,
no doubt, a sinner. It cannot be said of him that he was an instrument only and that the
sufferer got pain as a punishment for his or her sin and, therefore, he is free from blame.
The reason for considering him a sinner is that when he inflicts physical, mental or
spiritual injury, harm or pain on anyone and he has hatred, ill will, anger sex-lust or any
not untainted by any bad motive or evil intention and is not in a soul-conscious, yogic or
saintly state.
Keeping the law of Karma, thus defined in view, it is only natural to arrive at the
corollary that one's good Karma is one's good security. Weapons men in power, money
and political and social influence cannot save a man from suffering-physical injury included.
Considering in this light, one's tie to goodness and virtue is the real tie that saves
him from sufferings. One's moral bond is the real bond to safety. One's Dharma or
Divya guna is one's real Raksha bandhan.

Practical Spirituality in our daily life

Inline image 1

Once our minds are free from concepts, we have the "reality" of dealing with life as it is, that is waking up, eating, sleeping and relating with others in a day-to-day basis.
Spirituality then, arises from the time we wake up. That is, how enthusiastic we feel, if we have that zest for life and if we enjoy our little morning rituals to get ready for the day.
Eating is another dimension in itself. Our own well-being will create the proper atmosphere to ingest physical nourishment. That is complete purity. Food by itself does not determine purity but our state of being does that.
That means that our emotions and thoughts should be ready to feed ourselves.
In this way, we can see that nutrition does not deal only with the type of food items that we eat, but it is a wholesome way where mind, body and emotions are aligned.
One day a disciple asked his Taoist master, about his spiritual meditative practices. The sage responded:
" My practice is very simple. When I eat, I eat. When I sleep, I sleep, when I cook, I cook."
Behind those simple words, we could experience plenty of spiritual teachings.
Mindfulness, the moment, the now. Pay full attention to it, for every performed action will bring a similar action to be performed later and then, little by little; that becomes our own life of many years, which will become difficult to undo.
The moment that we choose to sleep is a sacred moment. We are giving away our conscious life back to life so we can recover and be completely aware the next day. This is not a small thing; considering that lots of individuals cannot sleep or do not sleep properly. Our minds, body and emotions need to be aligned in "sleep mode," to sleep properly.
Of course, "in between;" there is life.
If we are not feeding ourselves correctly, if we are not sleeping well, we cannot hope for a full day of inner sunshine.
No matter how much we try to smile throughout the day, our vitality and strength will be gone.
To preserve our precious energy is truly important. In this respect we need to learn and choose the activities that we will perform throughout the day.
As we can see, life is an interrelationship of diverse activities. All of them are related with each other in a "domino effect" and the quality of our life, depends on our inner well-being.
This is more than physically exercising every day to "look good," it is a balancing act, where our physical experience is meshed together in balance with our emotional life which is aligned with a clear mind.
This is known as being in harmony.
Our activities and the way we perform them, will demonstrate our level of spiritual growth. This is not a religious belief but true spirituality.

True significance of  -  RAKSHA BANDHAN  - The Eternal Bond

Do we ever stop to marvel at the magic of love? They say, love is as delicate as a flower that a single touch can bruise it, and yet so strong as to withstand all storms – purity makes love bloom and strengthens it for all time.  Love born out of Purity, begets faith and security; this is undoubtedly the strongest energy force we can possess today.  Real Love knows no limitations nor nurtures any prejudice.  Love is the epitome of freedom and power but only when grounded in Purity and Spiritual principles.  The Festival of Raksha Bandhan  (Bond of Protection) speaks of this Sacred, Loving relationship that nurtures, protects and uplifts.

Although the present era has modernized the festival greatly, its simple and significant meaning exists incognito.  A number of legends are connected with tying of the 'Rakhi' - symbolising the bond of love and protection - but the most intriguing
one is where the devtas (deities) are said to have lost their heavenly kingdom to the asuras (devils).  Before he sets out for war to regain the lost sovereignty, Lord Indra's (King of the Devtas) wife applies tilak of victory on his forehead and ties him a rakhi.  In due time, the deities gain victory and return to heaven.

How is this fable applicable to us?   Is Rakshabandhan a festival  that needs to be celebrated only once a year?  Are only sisters or females in need of protection?  Does fear arise from only external sources?  Taking sacred vows to serve and protect a person from all evil and sorrow…. what kind of protection do we really require?  Is protection possible if a brother is younger in age, disabled, or living far away?  How does purity play a role in this?  Can purity protect us?  The legends of Rakshabandhan take us deep into the spiritual meaning, thus allowing us to appreciate its immense value.
Wouldn't God - our Beloved Supreme Parent, True Teacher, Sat Guru - be a more effective and loyal Protector than a human being?  The Rakhi is undoubtedly the only bondage that truly frees us from all other bondages – all insecurities, fear, sorrow…  And it is God alone who can share the wisdom behind tying the sacred Rakhi , i.e. taking a vow…

Having forgotten our true identity of being an infinitesimal point of divine energy – Soul, Atma, Ruha, Spirit –  we got entangled in the bondage of 'BODY-CONSCIOUSNESS'  and the web  of the vices (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego).  These enemies overpowered us and influenced us to perform negative actions, which in turn caused sorrow.  God comes at the fag end of Kaliyuga, to awaken and enlighten the inner being, and He teaches us how to regain our lost sovereignty.
When the tilak of 'SOUL-CONSCIOUSNESS' is applied, and I 'tie' the sacred thread, i.e. take the pledge to stay in my original nature of peace, love, purity, wisdom, mercy… my every thought, word and action becomes elevated and divine.  I see every other being as a child of God and part of my spiritual family.  This unlimited vision of brotherhood breaks all barriers of caste, creed, age, gender, religion, socio-economic status, sanskars (personality traits)….  I then can live by my TRUE SELF-RESPECT and help others to do the same.

The more I purify my consciousness, the stronger is my connection with God.  God is then bound to look after me; and my positive actions ensure that I receive His blessings and good wishes from all souls… my global family…   and these  then work as my protection and stay with me forever.
'Pavitrata,  Sukh-Shanti  ki  jananee  hai'   (Purity is the Mother of Peace and Happiness) and so,  let us bind ourselves in this Spiritual Bandhan.  One small promise of love and purity on our side will bind God, The Almighty Authority, for eternity…

Isn't it time to see God work the magic of True Love…?

Magic Carpet

Thoughts are like a magic carpet, on which the soul rides across eternity. Rest for the spirit (which is what we are) is when we allow only the current of the purest thoughts to flow through our mind - thoughts which carry good wishes and blessings for ourselves and others. This is not so much going with the flow, as being in the flow, and refreshed by the flow. For when we have powerful, positive thoughts for and about others, who experiences them first?

Worthiness
Before we get any kind of advancement or promotion in life, we need to
have earned the right to it. There are no free gifts in life, nor are
there any short cuts to success of a lasting nature. Being worthy of
any kind of responsibility requires an attitude of service to others.
We earn a right only when we have given cooperation to others from our
hearts.

Stress Management Using Visualization

Often when faced with stress at work or at home, we can feel quite drained (mentally tired). Indeed, we may have noticed how certain individuals or particular situations are draining. We feel as if all our energy has been drawn out of us and it leaves us tired and exhausted. Although this sort of energy cannot be measured in the scientific sense, we can use the power of imagery to stop us feeling drained.

E.g. we can visualize that we are surrounded by a sphere of golden light, so any negative feelings or energies cannot affect us. In a detached way, we can view what is happening and can act suitably, but we are not touched by the stress. This method of using your power of visualization to create protective shields around us can be used in stressful situations e.g. before or during an important exam or an important meeting, interview or any other specific situation.

Nurturing My Relationship with Myself

One of the most significant areas of importance in any human's life is that of relationships. Someone with very good, close, harmonious and loveful relationships with loved ones, friends, colleagues, etc. is normally considered very fortunate or lucky. But of all relationships, the first and most basic one is the one I have with myself. So, how good, close or deep is my relationship with myself? How well do I know myself? Am I my own friend? If I think over the last week or fortnight, how many of my reactions were unexpected or uncontrolled or basically not the right ones? How many reactions left me confused, sad, unenthusiastic, peaceless, depressed, negative in any other way or in short uncomfortable? If there have been several such situations, it is an indication that there are still things deep within me that I do not know.

Normally a friend is someone whose company I enjoy, for whom there is love and from whom there is some benefit. As in any worldly relationship, without knowing a particular person to the core I can never have a deep relationship with that person. As the phrase 'spiritual knowledge' implies, it is the knowledge of the spirit or the self. Only by knowing myself completely and having a good relationship with the self, can I channelize my inner potential that I have within myself - just as water from a river, when properly channelized, provides water for various purposes. In any worldly relationship, if enough time and attention is not given to it and it is not nourished, it gets affected negatively. In the same way, though it's obvious that I have to spend a large chunk of each day involved in situations arising from my duties, routine activities, responsibilities and worldly relationships; my relationship with myself should also be given enough time and attention, so that it does not suffer. If I am not careful about that, my worldly life may use up my energy completely and discharge my inner battery. I need to find times in the day when I give time to my relationship with the self and recharge myself. The peace and happiness I long for internally will be obtained by having a good, positive relationship with the self.

Message for the day

To be able to bend means to be a giver.

Projection: There is usually a demand from situations for us to bow and bend. Even when it is not our mistake we are expected to understand or adjust. It seems very difficult at that time and we usually stand straight continuing to do what we believe in.

Solution: When such storms come in our life, we need to learn the art of bending, just as a flexible tree would bend to save itself in the storm and straighten once the storm passes over. To bend means to try to understand the other person also and to adopt the value of flexibility.
