| Birthplace of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Almighty Allah be upon him)
|
| The birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in Makkah which has since been converted to a library | The 12th day of Rabi' al-Awwal has a very special significance for 1.8 billion Muslims in the world. 1443 years ago on a pleasant Monday, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born in Makkah on the 12th day of Rabi' al-Awwal in the year 570 of the Gregorian calendar. There are mixed beliefs as to how one should observe the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Some people see the Prophet's birthday as an event worthy of praise. Others view the celebration of birthdays as contradictory to Islamic law and therefore, do not participate in celebrations on birthdays. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) himself made the day of his birth a day of worship which is different to celebration. He was asked about fasting on Mondays, and he said, "That is the day on which I was born and the day on which I was entrusted with the Mission or when I was first given the Revelation." (Reported by Muslim, al-Nissa'i and Abu Dawood). Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)was born in the home of his father, Abdullah ibn 'Abdul-Muttalib. When his grand father, Abdul Muttalib became blind, he divided his wealth between his children during his life. His father, Abdullah ibn Abdul Muttalib was given the house and whatever was around it. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) inherited his birthplace from his father and lived in that home until his migration to Madinah. The birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is located on Suq al-Layl Street in Makkah in the place known as the Night Market. It is a little less than half a kilometer away from Masjid al Haram. Aqil ibn Yusuf took the responsibility of the house and kept it under his and his son's custody until his son sold it to Muhammad bin Yusuf. This household remained for some time until al-Khayzuran, mother of the two khalifs, Musa and Harun made hajj and changed the house into a place of worship, evicted the residents from the house and bought it from the foundation to the alley by the house, for which it is called the Alley of the Birthplace of the Prophet (pbuh). King Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia gave Shaikh Abbas Kattan, a former Treasurer of Makkah the al-ard al-bayda (the blessed land), known as the the home of As-Sayyidah | The holy birthplace/turned library from inside | Khadijah, the respected wife of the Prophet(pbuh), in order to build a school for Quranic memorization. King Abdul Aziz also gave Shaikh Abbas Kattan the place where our beloved Prophet (pbuh) was born in order to build a huge library which will be visited by those seeking knowledge for years to come. Shaikh Kattan together with his in-laws bought all the most valuable contents from the famous library known as the Majidiyya Library and moved them to the new location in order to safeguard the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from being neglected and honoring him (pbuh) by establishing a beneficial and invaluable entity for the humanity to benefit from.
