DJ Prince Charles, the world's tallest tower and a spectacular solar eclipse
make our weekly photo retrospective.
1: Say cheese! Even robots like Nasa's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity like to have fun.
The Rover showed off its playful side by taking a picture of its own shadow over the red planet's Endeavour crater.
It's the latest self-portrait since it landed in 2004.
2: A delighted David Cameron is pictured with Barack Obama and Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel watching the shootout
between Chelsea and Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in the Laurel Cabin conference room during the G8 Summit
at Camp David, Maryland.
3: A man is winched to safety after plunging 180ft over Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side of the Niagara River in an apparent suicide attempt.
The survivor is the third person known to have fallen without a safety device and live. A helicopter flew him to Hamilton General Hospital,
where he is said to be recovering from critical, but non-life-threatening injuries.
4: Spectators watch as the Caterham Formula One car of Finland's driver Heikki Kovalainen is removed from the track
following a crash during the second practice session at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix.
5: A heron sizes up a gosling before eating it at Hyde Park's Serpentine lake in Central London.
6: A puzzled Prince Charles learns how to scratch and fade on a turntable as he tours an employment skills
workshop during a four-day visit to Canada to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
7: A sea lion wears a solar viewer at an aquarium in Tokyo during a solar eclipse.
The sun and moon aligned over the Earth in a rare astronomical event on Monday where skies dimmed over
parts of Asia and North America, briefly turning the sun into a blazing ring of fire.
8: A model dons an 'Igloo Dress' by designers English Eccentrics ahead of a fashion show
and auction at WWF Pandamonium 2012 in Hyde Park, London.
9: Even lions need to keep cool. Libby, a cub, licks a piece of ice from a broken ice ball at Blair Drummond Safari Park in Stirling,
Scotland, as the mercury hit 28C for the first time this year.
10: Playing with fire: Belarus held its first ever international fire festival. A stunning silhouette of the performers are seen as
fireworks explode in the background during the show held in the capital, Minsk.
11: A body surfer rides a giant wave during high tide in Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
12: A streaker runs onto the pitch during a baseball game between the St Louis Cardinals
and the Philadelphia Phillies in St Louis, Missouri.
13: Hikers watch an annular eclipse from Papago Park in Phoenix, Arizona.
The annular eclipse, in which the moon passes in front of the sun leaving only a golden ring around its edges,
was seen across China, Japan and elsewhere in the region before moving across the Pacific to be seen in parts of the western U.S.
14: A view of Tokyo Skytree, the world's tallest broadcasting tower. At 634 metres high,
the tower opened to the public on Tuesday, with hundreds of people entering the tower
and its large shopping mall.
15: The damaged old tower of Delle Rocche castle in Finale Emilia. Several thousand Italians were displaced
after a strong earthquake hit the north-east of the country, killing six people and reducing homes to rubble.
