| Narrated Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu anhu): The Prophet (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) said, "Avoid the seven great destructive sins." They (the people) asked, "O Allah's Messenger! What are they?" He said... v "To join partners in worship with Allah; v To practice sorcery; v To kill a person which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause (according to Islamic law); v To eat up Riba; v To eat up property of an orphan; v To show one's back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting & v To accuse chaste women who never even think of anything touching their chastity and are good believers." Sahih Al-Bukhari 8/6857 Narrated Aisha ((RadiAllahu anha): When the Verses of Sura Al-Baqarah about the Riba (usury) were revealed, the Prophet (SAW) went to the Masjid and recited them in front of the people and then banned the trade of alcoholic drinks. Sahih Al-Bukhari 1:449
`Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) said: Some people asked the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) about soothsayers. He (PBUH) said, "They are of no account." Upon this they said to him, "O Messenger of Allah! But they sometimes make true predictions." Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "That is a word pertaining to truth which a jinn snatches (from the angels) and whispers into the ears of his friend (the soothsayers) who will then mix more than a hundred lies with it."[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. The narration in Al-Bukhari is: "The angels descend in the clouds and mention matters which has been decreed in heaven; Satan steals a hearing (listens to it stealthily) and communicates it to the soothsayers who tell along with it a hundred lies."
Commentary: Kahin (soothsayer), Munajjim (astrologer) and Arraf (foreteller) have similar characteristics but with a slight difference. All of them make predictions about the future. Kahin would overhear some jinn and disclose the secret to people which would sometimes prove true, because the jinn's source of information was Satan who sometimes stole away some information from the angels. But after the annunciation of the Prophet (PBUH) it was made impossible for jinns and satans to overhear anything in the skies. Moreover, Kahin and others of his ilk would make predictions on the basis of certain signs and circumstantial evidence which could go wrong or right. This is so even to this day. Astrological prediction is also a form of foretelling but this is often wrong. Al-`Irafah, or what is known to be as divination is also an indication of some future occurrence on the basis of certain causes and events. All the three occult arts supplement each other and also take the help of similar other things. In other words, these are all different forms of soothsaying. Geomancy also tries to tell about the invisible future. At-Tarq is the art of taking omen by striking birds with gravel on their wings or by throwing barley, etc., before them. In the latter formula, if a bird flies towards the right side, it would be a good omen; and if it goes towards the left it will be a bad one. All such things are unlawful and have been strictly forbidden by Islam. If anything predicted by these means comes by chance true, it does not furnish any justification for their validity. | 303/1668 - Riyad Us-Saliheen (Gardens of the Righteous) |
An Easy Way to Paradise Feed, Greet and Pray The Prophetic Peace Formula Abdullah ibn Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated When the Prophet arrived for the first time in Madinah, I went with everyone to see him. When I saw him, I knew his face was not that of a liar. The first words he said were, "O people, feed the hungry, spread Salam(greeting of peace), maintain your kin relationships, and pray at night while others are asleep. With this, you shall enter Heaven in peace." (Al-Bukhari) Community organizers and leaders of all kinds who share and promote ideas play an important role in spreading values and bringing people together. They have the ability to leverage the collective strength of people to serve the wellbeing of humanity. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was sincere and had strong, clear conviction in his message, which is why he implemented it first on himself before he took it to others. His sincerity showed on his face, attitude, and body language, lending confidence and credibility to his words and message. The essence of his message is the well-being of people, and his first words as he entered into the new community of Madinah emphasized that. Eliminating hunger starts with everyone recognizing that we share the world's food resources. We can start to feed the hungry by creating opportunities for people to have healthy meals through social occasions, dedicated outlets or the personal concern on the individual level. Food is a necessity of survival and a prerequisite for peace. We cannot expect communities and countries to tackle other issues until we have helped them ease the pangs of hunger among their people. Ensuring that everyone is able to find their meals for the day is an important step towards world peace. As we meet each other on the road, while waiting in lines, in classrooms, in the workplace or in social gatherings, warmly greeting each other goes a long way in creating compassion and awareness among one another. Ignorance leads to hatred and greeting one another opens the door to learn about one another. It diffuses tension and fosters dialogue. A greeting of peace like "I wish you peace" or "May Allah's peace be with you today" goes even a step further. In Islam, one of Allah's names is Peace. A greeting of peace is a prayer for Allah to send His peace upon each one of us. The spiritual connection with Allah is the reactor that gives us the energy to sustain our relationship with others. | Family and relatives are an important unit for peace in the world. As families grow and expand, the connection and ties potentially grow weaker. Individuals may find themselves alone, unsupported and without a safety net. Small cliques and competition for power may grow inside the family, and people slowly disconnect from one another. Renewing and maintaining family ties on a regular basis, even with distant relatives, create opportunities for collaboration and appreciation for one another. It ensures that everyone belongs with someone, somewhere. In today's world, we are fortunate that technology has provided means of communication by which we can easily stay in touch with other family members. In an inspiring connection between our spiritual life and physical life, the Prophet lists praying at night along with feeding the hungry, greeting each other and maintaining family ties. There is something special about praying at night. When we are by ourselves in the quiet moments of the night, it is a powerful time to build our connection with Allah. The spiritual connection with Allah is the reactor that gives us the energy to sustain our relationship with others and our service toward them. By balancing our inner strength and implementing our role towards others, we chart not only a path to peace in our world, but a peaceful path to Heaven as well. Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing." [2:177 - Abdullah Yusuf Ali]
The Prophet (pbuh) has said:
[Bukhari, Book #24, Hadith #540] "Narrated Ishaq bin 'Abdullah bin Al Talha: I heard Anas bin Malik saying, "Abu Talha had more property of date-palm trees gardens than any other amongst the Ansar in Medina and the most beloved of them to him was Bairuha garden, and it was in front of the Mosque of the Prophet . Allah's Apostle used to go there and used to drink its nice water." Anas added, "When these verses were revealed:--'By no means shall you Attain righteousness unless You spend (in charity) of that Which you love. ' (3.92) Abu Talha said to Allah's Apostle 'O Allah's Apostle! Allah, the Blessed, the Superior says: By no means shall you attain righteousness, unless you spend (in charity) of that which you love. And no doubt, Bairuha' garden is the most beloved of all my property to me. So I want to give it in charity in Allah's Cause. I expect its reward from Allah. O Allah's Apostle! Spend it where Allah makes you think it feasible.' On that Allah's Apostle said, 'Bravo! It is useful property. I have heard what you have said (O Abu Talha), and I think it would be proper if you gave it to your Kith and kin.' Abu Talha said, I will do so, O Allah's Apostle.' Then Abu Talha distributed that garden amongst his relatives and his cousins." http://al-tanzil.com/The_Righteous.html Two Days and Two Nights like no others It is reported that Anas b. Malik – Allah be pleased with him – said:
There are two days and two nights the likes of which no one has ever heard of before: - the Day on which you will receive the news about Allah the Exalted: whether you will receive His punishment or His mercy,
- the Day you will be given your book (of deeds): either in your right hand or your left,
- that [first] night you will spend alone in your grave, a night like no other you have spent, and
- that night on the morning of which will be the Day of Resurrection, after which there will be no more night.
Abu Bakr Al-Daynuri, Al-Mujalasah wa Jawahir Al-'Ilm article 19. Lower our gazes It was reported on the authority of Wakee' who said: We went out with Sufyaan ath-Thowree on the day of 'Eed, and he said [to us]: "Indeed, the first thing we shall start with on this day of ours is to lower our gazes." al-War' - Page 6 | | | |
