Dear Dr.Mritunjoy Sengupta,
If you could manage to read the front page of today Hindustantimes,Dec 09,2012,Press Council of India chairman Mr. Markandey Katju seems to have raked another storm claiming that 90% of Indian are idiots with hay in their brain, who can't make the right choice during elections.
Of course the deep root cause of failure of the Indian Democracy is massive illiteracy and slave mentality !
That brings to my minds the following lines of our patriot poet late Rabindranath Tagore

The contents of your letter are very correct, but disappointing. According to a recent speech
In U.S.A , about fifty crore voters in India are illiterate even sixty years after gaining independence. They cannot sign their name. They vote by thumb impression. According to Mr. Advani , this situation arose because of influence of Mr.Jawaharlal Nehru on the Constituent Assembly. Mr. Nehru directed the Assembly that one man – one vote irrespective of education. That system resulted the present situation prevailing in the political condition in India. What you can expect from politicians who are elected by fifty crore illiterate voters who cannot sigh their name . The outcome of the next election is difficult to predict because of the illiterate voters. This situation is not prevailing in other democratic countries.
The question is what can be done to rectify the situation and bring India to a meaningful life. Literacy and education is the only solution. You should spend rest of your life on education and literacy of common Indians. We cannot change the Constitution now. But we can change the voters who are, due to their ignorance are electing corrupt and goons as country's politicians. About hundred thirty five members of the Lok Sabha are facing serious criminal charges, but they were elected in the last election by illiterate voters.
You should spend rest of your life educating the Indian voters and get them to read and write. The politicians like Mr. Nehru cannot be allowed to exploit their illiteracy and get votes. Education is the only solution. You can contribute to India.
