Pure gold tattoos make Dubai debut
The UAE's first real gold and platinum tattoo business will set up shop in the iconic five-star Burj Al Arab hotel next week, Arabian Business can reveal.
Starting at AED200 for a small gold tattoo and AED400 for an equivalent platinum one, the temporary tattoos have been available in the emirates for just two months.
Originating from Japan, the tattoos are created from 99 percent gold or platinum foil that is applied directly to the skin. Application takes around 10 minutes.
Arnaud Flambeau, managing director of Flambeau Luxury Trading DMCC, who brought the tattoos to Dubai, told Arabian Business they are already proving popular among the emirates' sheikhas.
"It's like jewellery for the body, but it's also fun," Flambeau said. "The tattoo is like a second skin and very comfortable to wear. They are ideal for weddings, parties or special occasions."
The tattoos, called Precious Skin, were created by the Japanese designer Nobuhiko Akastuka in 2006, and until now have not been available in another market, Flambeau said.
Bridal and bespoke designs cost more than standard tattoos and start at $500.
Flambeau, a board member of the Dubai Diamond Exchange, said he plans to expand the business into Saudi Arabia in January.
