Chitral was a Hindu country before the extension of Islam,
and traces of Buddhism are also found here. It is now in Pakistan.
It has always been a very important route for invaders on their way to South Asia, including Alexander the Great and the Mongols. It had been as much needed by USA to hunt down al-Qaeda
and Osama Bin Laden.
