Today is October 5, 2011 WORLD TEACHERS' DAY Teachers deserve a little recognition, and some thanks and appreciation. Aside from parents and direct family, who else has as much influence on the hearts and minds of a child... your child? Teachers not only educate, but they help to shape and frame your child's beliefs, values, and behaviors. Parents and students are encouraged to offer thanks and recognition today. A simple "thanks", or an ecard is sufficient. BTW: An apple a day may keep the doctor away. But, teachers love to get apples. If you are a teacher, Happy World Teacher Day! Origin of World Teacher Day: World Teachers' Day was initiated by the Director-General of UNESCO, Federico Mayor, at the International Conference on Education in Geneva in 1993. On October 5, 1966, a UNESCO and the International Labor Organization conference adopted a special recommendation on Teachers. The date of this event was selected as the date to annually honor and recognize teachers around the world. Eight Houseplants That Are

For many of us, the perfect houseplant is one
that looks great and continues to thrive
without requiring a lot of extra attention.
It needs to forgive us if we forget to water

that have earned a reputation for their
adaptability and tolerance for neglect.

Preventing Head Lice
I had a terrible time with lice when my son
first started school, they were so bad I had
to cut his hair to a quarter inch long!
These three tips worked to prevent them.
1
Wash your children's hair every night.
Lice need approximately 24 hours to feed
and lay eggs. This washes them out and
you never get the eggs. Yes, I know children
hate to wash their hair, but they hate lice
treatments even more.
2
Use some kind of hair product on your
children's hair. I used mousse and hairspray
and they both work. Any kind works, I just
used the dollar store ones. If you put it into
wet hair it won't get stiff. Just make sure
that the hair is fully coated. It takes a lot
less product than you might think. This
works to keep the lice from adhering
themselves or their eggs to the hair shaft.
3
In winter, when you get the notices from
school that lice have been found, have your
children put their outerwear into the dryer
for about 10 minutes every day after school.
