And at $30,000 a pair, leaving your boots on the Moon is not cheap. This is because the boots need to withstand temperatures from -350�F to 350�F and bear the potential impact of small meteoroids at speeds of up to 45,000 miles an hour! Fortunately, this was not merely an act of carelessness on Armstrong's part - he got rid of them in order to compensate for the additional weight of moon rocks he collected! Armstrong's boots are not the only pair to be left on the lunar surface, either! There are actually nine other pairs, all worn by astronauts during the Apollo missions.
