<>_<>LORD SHIV<>_<>
Dear Friends,
Today in the Gita class at the Temple, there was a discussion of the pending announcement of the discovery of the Higgs Boson, the "God" particle, possibly next week at CERN in Switzerland, where the Large Hadron Collider is located where the powerful subatomic experiments have been taking place.
I mentioned to the members of the Gita class that the CERN laboratory, the largest of its kind in the world, is graced with a large statue of Shiv, in the form of Nataraj, which the administration and scientists had placed there. I have attached a photograph of the evening view of the entrance showing the shadow of Shiva on the front of the CERN headquarters building.
This is written on the plaque of the statue:
"Modern physics has shown that the rhythm of creation and destruction is not only manifest in the turn of the seasons and in the birth and death of all living creatures, but is also the very essence of inorganic matter, and that for the modern physicists, then, Shiva's dance is the dance of subatomic matter."
"Hundreds of years ago, Indian artists created visual images of dancing Shivas in a beautiful series of bronzes. In our time, physicists have used the most advanced technology to portray the patterns of the cosmic dance. The metaphor of the cosmic dance thus unifies ancient mythology, religious art and modern physics."
