Who did he agree to marry at the world premiere of 'Ready'?
It was a typical Salman Khan entrance at the press conference at the Grand Hyatt before the world premiere of 'Ready' in Dubai yesterday (June 1). Salman was almost two hours late, and the media and fans were waiting patiently for the grand arrival. As usual, when the star finally arrived, all was well - he had everyone laughing with his quirky sense of humor.
Before the questions were even fired at Salman, he was quick to admit that there were fights on the sets of 'Ready'. He said, "As everyone in India seems to be asking us this question, we might as well admit to it. Next question please!"
He managed, surprisingly, to keep the audience quiet for several moments before another question was put to him. And he also spoke on behalf of his 'Ready' heroine Asin. "She, unfortunately, couldn't be here as her passport is stuck at the UK immigration office - she is meant to fly to London for 'Housefull 2'."
Aside from the more serious questions, Salman was inevitably asked, by a clearly devoted fan, "Salman Khan, will you marry me?" Sallu was speechless for a moment, before he responded with a flourish, "Sure, why not? Of course I will marry you." Good on Salman for not embarrassing the lady!
He went on to talk about 'Ready', saying, "All of us had a blast shooting for this film," adding that it was the first time they "all cracked up between takes."
When asked about his expectations from 'Ready', Salman was confidence personified, "I want this film to break the record of '3 Idiots'." Hmmm...can't wait to hear what buddy Aamir Khan will have to say about that!
Salman was also asked about his marketing strategy in Bollywood, and he said that he more or less does as he is told. "They told me to come to Dubai, I did. They asked me to come again, I came again."
Soon after, despite appearing somewhat uncomfortable and reluctant, he spoke of his charity Being Human. Salman has organised special screenings, inviting almost 3,000 children from less privileged backgrounds to watch 'Ready' as part of its activites.
The issue of piracy was also raised and Salman was firm that "These dogs are sick people who don't realize that this is money not for big corporations but for poor, underprivileged people. They are stealing from them. They should be ashamed of themselves."
He also talked about his next movie, 'Bodyguard', where he stars with Kareena Kapoor. It's an action movie, and it appears that's Salman's favourite genre to work in. "Action keeps you on your toes," he said.
And then Salman was on his toes, at the end of the press conference, in a mad rush of media and fans, all pushing to take pictures.
The 'Ready' premiere was a packed event, of course, with all of Salman's fans in attendance. "It was an experience not to be forgotten easily. There were as many people standing outside the four screenings we had in Dubai as there were inside the theatres," director Anees Bazmee said.
