The Bow and Arrow – An archer needs to possess energy to hit the target perfectly. Maa Durga has command over all kinds of energy, which is why she never misses. The bow and arrow are perfect symbols to represent energy.
"Sudarshan-Chakra" – The discus signifies that Maa controls the entire world at her fingertips while keeping evils at bay and sustaining the growth of goodwill and prosperity.
Sword – Knowledge is sharp-edged and is not bound by doubts, so the sword aptly symbolizes it. The shine depicts the might of knowledge.
Conch shell – "Pranava" or the mystic word "Om" is represented by the conch and it signifies Maa using the medium of sound to hold on to God.
Lotus – Maa always holds a lotus that is not fully bloomed. This symbolization is important as it indicates the path of success, although it does not determine finality. There is another representation as well – lotus is called "pankaj" in Sanskrit, which means born of mud. Thus, the flower indicates that the spirituality of faithful devotees is evolving even among greed, jealousy, and lust.
Thunderbolt – Maa tests us by testing our faith, which should be strong and firm like a thunderbolt. The Mother Goddess encourages her devotees to face the challenges of life without losing faith, just like a thunderbolt faces adversities.
