Johnny Carson never owned a television. office plants Put a couple lush, leafy accents on your desk and you'll create an instant gardenlike ambience. The natural beauty of plants is soothing and can even brighten your spirits. Want more? Many common indoor office plants clean the air, removing air pollutants caused by chemicals in furniture, paint and carpeting. And you can breathe easier knowing they do a good job of recycling the carbon dioxide that we exhale into oxygen. Yes, plants are good for you. Just think...for the cost of a mocha latte or two, you can treat yourself to a fresh, long-lasting accent that'll give your mood a lift every day. And don't you deserve it? Peace Lily This is one of nature's best indoor air purifiers. And it couldn't be more adaptable to life at the office. Peace Lily is tolerant of low light, as well as dry air that's typical of office buildings. Although easy-going, give it a little nurturing, and it will pay big dividends. Consistently moist soil and bright fluorescent lights will help it bloom. They make great office plants. Hard working, and never complain. What more could you ask? Sandy to Mandy: "Look at that young person, with the short hair and blue jeans. Is it a boy or a girl? Another person replied, "It's a girl. She's my daughter." Sandy said, "Oh, I'm sorry, sir. I didn't know that you were her father." The other person quipped, "I'm not. I'm her mother." The End of the Incandescent Bulb You may or may not have heard on the news about the end of the light bulb as we know it. Normal bulbs are being phased out. The production of incandescent bulbs will end, and they will be replaced with fluorescent bulbs which are supposed to be more energy efficient and environmentally safe. That said, you have two options for light in the future. The first option is to stockpile normal bulbs while they are still available. Store them in a safe place and use as needed. The other option is to start looking for these new bulbs, and get them when they go on sale. Right now, they are more of a novelty. I imagine when they become the required norm, they will go up in price. I recently ran across these new bulbs on sale at Lowes for $1.25 each. I purchased four. If you are not familiar with the bulb I am referring to, look at the attached picture. These are the bulbs of the future. ~Suntydt Cleaning a Computer Use eyeglass cleaner to dust of the monitor and use a damp Q-tip between the keys. Use a feather duster to give it a dust, lightly over all. This works for me. You can't use anything strong on the monitor. Evelyn Rubber Gloves To Remove Pet Hair from Furniture Put on a pair of latex gloves. Then "pet" your furniture. You will notice the pet hair rolling up under the gloves, almost into a rope. Really embedded pet hair will loosen, but it will take a little elbow grease! A bonus is that by wearing the gloves, you can remove/loosen hair wherever your hand can go. The gloves work great on fabric car upholstery, too. Annelle - PA While walking the dogs with my husband one day, I stopped at the top of the hill at the base of our driveway before going down into the snow. I couldn't stop staring at all of the trees looking so white! We do not get snow very often here in Coquille, Oregon. In fact, as a kid it was so rare that we'd only see a little snow every 5 years or so. Even then, there wasn't usually enough to make a snowman. So, seeing this much white in my area was completely exciting! I do wonder if weather is changing. I have a neat book depicting the history of our little Coos County, and the pictures it shows from back in the 20's and 30's are covered in snow! In one photo, you can see our local community building (which is still there today) and it's drowning in the winter wonderland! With the snowfall increasing around here each year, I wonder if it will ever be that way around here again. If so, probably not in my lifetime, thank goodness! Anyway, just thought I'd share my photo and thoughts with you today. This picture is a bit dated, I took it back in February of this year, but I just finished touching it up and you are one of the first ones to see it. Please always feel free to tell me what you think. Your news rocks! May God keep His watchful eyes upon you all the rest of your days! Chelle - OR “It is a good day A study in the Washington Post says that women have better verbal skills than men. I just want to say to the authors of that study: Duh. ~Conan O'Brien DOUBLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIES Two kinds of chocolate make these health-minded brownies hard to resist. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking. Separate them from the situation, which is always neutral, which always is as it is. Say to yourself: ‘There is the situation or the fact and here are my thoughts about it. Stay with the facts. For example, "I am ruined" is a story. It limits you and prevents you from taking effective action. "I have 50 cents left in my bank account" is a fact. Facing facts is always empowering. May your day be filled with empowering moments. | ||
