Our Lord did not leave us in the dark when it came to revealing what one must do
to be a true disciple. He made his conditions of discipleship very plain, so all
would understand His will.
Jesus challenges us to respond in love to His boundless love which He has for us.
We must deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow in the steps of the Lord.
There is a price for discipleship, and we must be willing to pay the cost.
Our daily dying to self makes us more open to receive the love and instructions of the Lord
as we follow in His ways. His steps are on the straight and narrow path for us to follow that
leads to eternal life. We are to come unto the Lord and learn of Him. His Spirit will
lead and guide us into all truths if we humble our hearts and receive all God has for us.
We must be both "transformed and informed" in the service of God. We are to put on
the new man of the Spirit, created in God's image. (Eph. 4: 23) His Word and Spirit will
be the source of our encouragement, strength, power and perseverance.
There is an old proverb which says "the burden of love is light like a cloud." When we
come to the Lord, He will lift our burdens and lift us up above the shadows of this life to
set with Him in heavenly places. Our heavy yoke is exchanged for His yoke
which is easy, and His burden is light. Jesus will carry our burdens as we trust in Him.
May our hearts be receptive to the love God offers and a channel through which His Spirit
can flow. As He blesses us, we are to reach out and be a blessing to others. We will
find the blessings of discipleship make the crosses we bear seem light, in comparison
with the glory we know shall be revealed hereafter. God is an "Awesome God" and
we are privileged to be "followers of Christ." We give thanks for God's Spirit who leads
and guides us through this world. There is no greater love than that of our blessed Lord.
